When was the last time you heard, thank you for your service. For a moment, it seems as if that expression is for someone with a military background. I’ve never heard it attached to nurses, doctors, teachers, police officers, firefighters, sanitation workers, or even the person who serves coffee at your local Dunkin’ Donuts. If it had, it’s uncommon. It’s synonymous with the military. You could be in the middle of a conversation at the local supermarket, and the moment someone reveals his military background, you hear, “By the way, thank you for your service.” It’s automatic. I have nothing against the military. I have many family members and friends who have served, and some are still active. As you continue to express your gratitude to those who keep us safe, take it a step further. Challenge yourself, starting today, to thank at least one individual for his or her service we don’t generally thank for the next 3 – 7 days. If time permits, please share any experience.
